PORT TOWNSEND — Applications are due in March for $31,500 in scholarships that will be awarded in May by the University Women’s Foundation of Jefferson County, the philanthropic affiliate of the American Association of University Women-Port Townsend.

The $11,000 Elmira K. Beyer Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to an East Jefferson County woman who has completed at least one year of university study and wishes to continue her education.

Three additional university scholarships will be offered based on the same criteria as the Elmira K. Beyer Endowed Scholarship, two for $2,000 and one for $6,500.

New this year is the Lisa T. Painter scholarship, which will provide $2,500 to a local woman who plans to study law, medicine/health or fine arts.

Also, three high school scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to local young women graduating this year from Port Townsend, Chimacum and Quilcene high schools and going on to college.
