Port Angeles asks residents for voluntary water conservation

PORT ANGELES — The city of Port Angeles has declared a Stage II water shortage due to low levels in the Elwha River, according to a News Flash on the city’s website.

Stage II water restrictions ask residents to voluntarily reduce water use.

Recommended conservation actions include:

• Install low-flow shower heads and faucets that are available for free at city hall.

• Reduce frequency and volume of lawn watering and limit it to early morning or evenings.

• Collect a rebate for installing water-efficient toilets, rain barrels, watering timers and soil moisture meters.

• Reduce the frequency of car-washing.

• Operate automatic dishwashers and clothes washers only when full.

The city has five stages of water restrictions; levels I and II can be declared by the city manager.

Levels III through V, which include limited outdoor restrictions, emergency mandatory outdoor restrictions and indoor conservation and water rationing, require a declaration by the city council.
