Innovative arts, crafts fair highlights festival’s first weekend
The 2018 Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair comes to the Sequim Civic Center Plaza this weekend.

SEQUIM — With the theme of reusability, repurpose and recycling, the Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair comes to the Sequim Civic Center Plaza on Saturday and Sunday, with a patron preview set during the Sequim First Friday Art Walk tonight.

The arts fair emphasizing reusability, repurposing, recycling is set from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the plaza at 152 W. Cedar St.

In addition to some 45 arts and crafts vendors, the event features food vendors, entertainment on a main stage, demonstrations of sustainable arts and crafts and an opportunity to participate in a hands-on community art project.

Event organizers invite community members to enter creative works or vote for awards during the Innovative Reuse Showcase and Contest.

Participants are encouraged to bring do-it-yourself reuse, recycle, repurpose creations to win prizes. Creations are due today or Saturday morning.

People’s Choice awards will be given in four categories: Wearable, Functional, Decorative and Kids 15 and younger.

Co-directors of the Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair are Jean Wyatt and Renne Emiko Brock. Sponsors include Castell Insurance, Kitsap Bank, Home Instead, Evergreen Home Loans, Coastal Farm & Ranch, and Shawnna Rigg & Marcus Oden, RE/MAX Prime.

• 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — Genaveve Starr, “Recycling product packaging into containers for art.”

• 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. — Driftwood sculpting by the Olympic Driftwood Sculptors.

Sunday

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.— Frances Rice, “Sock Pet Friends.”

• 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Brad Griffith of Sequim Community Makerspace, “The Toy Makers Teacher.”

Community Creativity Activity

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday — Color small pieces of the 2018 Irrigation Festival logo to make a giant logo mural that will be on display at Coastal Farm & Ranch.
