Beach blaze contained at Morse Creek

PORT ANGELES — A fire that burned down the beach at Strait View Drive near Morse Creek on Saturday threatened nearby homes but was contained before it spread, according to Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue Chief Jake Patterson.
“Several homeowners were out trying to extinguish it upon our arrival,” Patterson said at about 5:30 p.m. as he and other firefighters were engaged in extinguishing hot spots in the blaze.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:11 p.m. and had the fire contained about an hour later, he said. Fueled by heavy wind, the blaze covered about 330 by 100 feet.
The cause is under investigation.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue was aided by Clallam Fire District 3, Port Angeles Fire Distract and the state Department of Natural Resources.
