PORT ANGELES — The 2021 Pollanz Promise scholarships have been awarded to two students at Stevens Middle School.

Jessie Hustad and Kendall Mast were each awarded the promise of a $32,000 college scholarship by the family of Gladys Christopher Pollanz.

To qualify for the scholarship, each must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average through high school and attend a four-year college.

The other five finalists are Hailey Hernandez, Gwynivere Jones, Weston Owens, Elizabeth Munro-Sanders and Leilani Thomason.

Each of them will be awarded $1,000 on graduating from high school with a 3.0 grade-point average and will be eligible to apply for a Pollanz Scholarship during their senior year.

Pollanz, a 1923 graduate of Roosevelt High School, bequeathed $1 million to establish the scholarship fund, which has awarded promise scholarships to middle school students since 2005.
