Memorial Day across the Peninsula

Memorial Day ceremonies took place Monday across the North Olympic Peninsula.
In Port Townsend, Shannon Meehan, president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Marvin G. Shields Post 26, described why the Legion and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 317 were laying wreaths at the Fort Worden Military Cemetery.
In Sequim, flags at the Sequim View Cemetery adorned gravesites.
In Forks, Dave Williams gave the order for a gun salute at the Forks Cemetery. Forks VFW and American Legion posts made up the squad. They include Mike McCracken, Larry Baysinger, Paul Hampton, Rick Seguin and Joe Wright.
VFW Post commander Tom Hughes led the program with words from Auxilliary President Janet Hughes and Forks Mayor Tim Fletcher, and Chelsea Biciunas ended the ceremony by playing taps on her trumpet.
