PORT TOWNSEND — An Irondale house suffered moderate damage after fire broke out in a bedroom Thursday morning.

No one was home and there were no injuries, said Bill Beezley, spokesman for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters were called to the house on West Swaney Street at 9:57 a.m. after a passer-by saw smoke coming from the eaves and called 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers.

Arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from under the roof line. The fire was declared out at 10:29 a.m.

The Jefferson County Fire Investigation Task Force was investigating the cause of the fire, which was not considered to be suspicious.

Investigators on Thursday were focusing their efforts on a baseboard heater in a bedroom, Beezley said.
