PORT TOWNSEND — The Pipia Sisters, a pair of professional theater artists, will offer two free intensive trainings for young actors — age 7 to 16 — this summer, so they’re getting ready to hold auditions for them.
The tryouts are set for this Saturday and next Saturday, June 13, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
Youngsters may attend either session; both will be held at the Chameleon Theater, 800 W. Park Ave.
The first training will run Aug. 9-14 and culminate in a performance of a new musical production Aug. 14-16 at the Chameleon.
The second intensive will be offered Aug. 17-21 with the musical performances following Aug. 21-23.
The Port Townsend-bred Pipia Sisters founded their production company, Generation Goat Rocket, in New York City six years ago, and have been creating shows for children and grown-ups ever since.
Their most recent production, “Under Cover,” featured a cast of 15 young performers and played to sold-out houses last summer at the Chameleon Theater.
This summer’s intensives will have young actors working with the Pipia Sisters’ original script, score and choreography, to stage their fifth all-youth production in Port Townsend.
In these song-dance-acting intensives, students will work on building confidence, leadership skills and developing their joy in theater, Phina noted.
“We’re delighted to offer this super-fun, immersive opportunity to young people,” at no cost.
“It’s important to us that arts education remains available to kids throughout Jefferson County; this is our way of making that happen.”
These youth productions are part of Generation Goat Rocket’s second summer season, which has included a performance of the musical heist “Dances with Spoons” at the Vancouver, B.C., International Fringe Festival, and a run of the same show in Port Townsend.
