PORT ANGELES — Walter Floyd Mozingo pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of first-degree rape of a child.

The 52-year-old Port Angeles man will be sentenced May 19 in Clallam County Superior Court.

A single count of third-degree rape of a child will be dismissed at the sentencing hearing as part of a negotiated plea agreement, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin said.

Devlin is recommending a 13-year, six-month prison sentence for Mozingo.

A judge could sentence him to as many as 18 years.

Mozingo was charged Dec. 18 with two counts of first-degree rape of a child after two girls told Port Angeles police they were raped by Mozingo when they were younger than 12.

Additional charges of first- and third-degree child rape were added Feb. 6 after a third victim told Police Detective Kori Malone that she was raped by Mozingo multiple times over a period of about eight years.

Mozingo was released from jail shortly after his Dec. 15 arrest. He was rearrested Dec. 23 for violating a protection order by having third-party communication with a woman connected to the victims.

Devlin recommended in court papers that Mozingo be ordered to have no contact with all the victims for life.
