Families in Forks and Port Angeles have received the keys to their new Habitat for Humanity homes.

Mark and Trina Weaver and their sons, Mark Jr., Kenneth and Chris, received the keys to their new home in Forks on Feb. 28 before a crowd of about 50 people, including Forks Mayor Bryon Monohon.

On Saturday, Habitat’s 25th home in Clallam County was dedicated at 1612 Maloney Court in Port Angeles.

Jamie Commerton and her two daughters were presented the key to their new home.

Both families completed 500 hours of “sweat equity” requirements, with the Weavers exceeding them by an additional 186 hours of work on their home.

Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing in partnership with low-income families throughout Clallam County.

Families help to build the homes and purchase them with a no-interest mortgage.

Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund used to build more houses.

“There is an overwhelming need for simple, decent, affordable housing here in Clallam County,” Executive Director Cyndi Hueth said.

“Habitat partners with hardworking, low-income families so they can realize the dream of homeownership.

“We help change lives and break the cycle of poverty.”
