PT Playfest kicks off Thursday with three short pieces

PORT TOWNSEND — PT Playfest 19, Key City Public Theatre’s annual festival, starts Thursday with a triptych of short, locally written pieces.
The venue is the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St., where a festival kickoff happy hour will start at 6:30 p.m.
Then comes the first three readings: one-act plays presented in a single program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with tickets at $10 via Keycitypublictheatre.org and 360-385-5278. Remaining seats will be sold at the playhouse door.
For Playfest, which continues through March 15, theater lovers may also opt for the $35 all-performance pass or the $95 writer’s pass, which includes the playwriting intensive with visiting artist Doris Baizley.
The one-act plays to be performed Thursday, all written by Port Townsend residents, are:
■ “The Standoff,” Susan Solley’s play with the message: “Be kind to everybody; you never know who you’re dealing with.”
■ “Lucifer,” Sandy Diamond’s tale of the devil in a park in Berkeley.
■ “Mortuary Affairs,” Christopher Clow’s drama set during the troop surge in Iraq.
These three staged readings — plus three full productions of other local playwrights’ work — will be presented through the next two weekends.
