GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles gymnasts put up multiple personal-bests in victory against Kingston

POULSBO — Port Angeles gymnastics achieved its highest team score of the season while defeating Kingston 146.8-133.05.

Port Angeles’ Maya Wharton put up four personal-bests with a 9.0 score and a win in the floor exercise, a score of 32.3 that was good for second in the all-around, a 7.0 and a second-place finish on bars and a fourth-place finish with a score of 8.1 in the vault.

Port Angeles freshman Sydney Miner had four personal-bests: 5.9 in the vault, 7.8 to place fifth on the beam, 8.5 to take fourth in the floor exercise and 30.6 in the all-around, which was good for fourth place in Friday’s meet.

Miner also finished second in the vault with a score of 8.3.

Rozzi Piper had three personal-bests, finishing third on the beam with an 8.1, posting a 5.6 and placing sixth on the bars and finishing sixth in the all-around with a score of 27.1.

Alexis Hefton had two personal-bests, finishing fourth on the beam with a score of 7.9 and fifth in the floor exercise with an 8.2.

Sequim’s Julie Pineau, who trains with Port Angeles, tallied four personal bests after winning the vault with a score of 8.5, taking third in the all-around by posting a 30.6, third in the bars with a score of 5.9 and placing third in the floor exercise after putting up an 8.9.

The Riders host their only home meet of the year at Klahanne Gymnastics Center in Port Angeles at 11 a.m. Monday.
