PORT ANGELES — The sounds of the recorder, harpsichord, cello and violin will fill Maier Performance Hall this coming Tuesday, when Peninsula College’s Maier Hall Concert Series presents the widely acclaimed Ensemble Electra from Seattle.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with tickets $15 for general admission or $5 for students.
To order online, visit www.Pencol.edu/cultural-events and click on “Maier Hall Concert Series.”
Remaining tickets will be available at the door of Maier Hall, which is on the main Peninsula College campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
After a well-attended performance during Maier Hall’s 2012-13 season, Ensemble Electra is back with four players, one more than before.
The members are Vicki Boeckman, recorder; Tekla Cunningham, violin; Joanna Blendulf, cello and viola da gamba; and Jillon Stoppels Dupree, harpsichord.
Founded in 2006, Ensemble Electra specializes in 17th- and 18th-century music and draws on its many years of solo, chamber music and large-ensemble experience to create innovative and dynamic performances.
A hallmark of the ensemble is the unique programming, which often combines music from seemingly disparate eras woven together.
For Tuesday’s performance, Ensemble Electra will play sonatas by Handel, Bach, Cavalli, Vivaldi and Telemann, including Telemann’s masterful trio sonata depicting famous Greek heroines and goddesses.
The group enjoys engaging in lively conversations with listeners during its concerts, so patrons can plan on an evening of both music and interaction.
Next up in the Maier Hall Concert Series is the first Olympia Peninsula appearance by the Paul Taub-Byron Schenkman Duo on Feb. 24. The piano-flute pair will step up at 7 p.m. on that Tuesday.
