EYE ON JEFFERSON: Board eyes extending pot moratorium

Published 12:01 am Sunday, January 11, 2015

The three Jefferson County commissioners will discuss extending a moratorium on recreational marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The present moratorium on processing permits for recreational marijuana in certain zones, which was set for six months, will expire Feb. 11.

The county Department of Community Development is recommending an extension of four months, with two possible alternatives: extending the moratorium as it is now or extending it with an additional provision of not including parcels of land larger than 5 acres that are designated either rural residential 1:10 or rural residential 1:20.

A public hearing is expected to be conducted on the moratorium at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26 in commissioners’ chambers.

At 10 a.m., commissioners plan a public hearing on a proposal to provide up to $73,000 in conservation futures money to the Jefferson Land Trust’s Snow Creek Watershed Acquisitions Project.

Items on the consent agenda include:
