Published 12:01 am Friday, December 19, 2014

In a pair of concerts titled “Music for a Winter’s Solstice,” pianist Eric Genuis, soprano Amanda Kingston, violinist Liesl Schoenberger and cellist Slava Dobrushkin will appear this Sunday at two Catholic parishes: St. Joseph’s in Sequim and Queen of Angels in Port Angeles.

Admission is free to both concerts, while donations are welcome and will benefit My Choices, a local resource center for pregnant women.

Old, new music

The foursome will offer classical and contemporary music at noon Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., Sequim.

Then comes a 4 p.m. concert at Queen of Angels, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.

The musicians have performed in many prestigious concert halls, from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., to the International Music Academy in Colima, Mexico.

Genuis, who comes from Krakow, Poland, has recorded five albums of his original compositions and can be found online at www.EricGenuis.com.

Traveling pianist

The pianist travels to schools, prisons and other venues to give concerts, and this Saturday, he plans to perform at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center, said Patricia Sollmann, coordinator of his visit.

Genuis also will perform Sunday at the Sherwood Assisted Living Christmas party in Sequim.

Sollmann noted, too, that the visitors have impressive resumes: Dobrushkin, a Ukrainian, is the principal cellist with the Texas Medical Center Orchestra, and Schoenberger has played at Carnegie Hall as well as at Nashville, Tenn.’s Grand Ole Opry.
