WEEKEND: Cinderella, solstice celebrations, Santa visits among offerings on Peninsula

CINDERELLA, SANTA, SOLSTICE CELEBRATIONS and sing-alongs are offered this last weekend before Christmas on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Carol Sing-Along

PORT TOWNSEND — Unity of Port Townsend offers its first-ever Christmas Carol Sing-Along from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today.

The sing-along will be at the Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center, 3918 San Juan Ave.

All ages are welcome, and admission is free.

Song “menus” will be available for participants to call out their favorite seasonal songs, and the words will be projected on a screen for easy reading.

Coffee concert slated

PORT TOWNSEND — Turtle Bluff, located at 523 Blue Ridge Road, will host its Winter Coffee Concert Christmas Program at 2 p.m. Sunday, then again at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Admission is $10 at the door.

Guests can partake in complimentary coffee, tea and cookies.

‘Cinderella’ continues

PORT TOWNSEND — Key City Public Theatre’s holiday show, “Cinderella,” is in the midst of its run at the Key City Playhouse, 419 Washington St.

While all performances are child-friendly, a specially priced family show is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday.

Tickets for it are $3 for small child lap seating, $7 for children 12 and younger, $10 for ages 13 to 18 and $10 for any adult accompanied by a child.

The rest of the “Cinderella” performances, Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 28, have seats ranging from $10 to $24.

Boffer sword play

PORT HADLOCK — The Jefferson County Library will host the Boffer Club for those ages 9-18 from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today.

The free club will be at the library at 620 Cedar Ave.

Younger children are welcome when accompanied by parents or guardians.

Boffers will be available, but participants can bring their own.

Holiday Honky Tonk

CHIMACUM — A Holiday Honky Tonk Dance is planned at the Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today.

Admission to the all-ages dance is a suggested $5 donation.

Participants are urged to bring snacks, water and dancing shoes.

Holiday party

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County Genealogical Society will host a holiday party from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 am. Saturday.

The annual social meeting will be at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.

Visitors are welcome. Admission is free, although donations are welcome.

Coffee and tea will be provided.

Santa Lucia celebration

CHIMACUM — Thea Foss No. 45 Daughters of Norway will celebrate the annual Santa Lucia celebration and “Juletrefest” at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The event is open to the public and is a potluck luncheon.

Traditional singing and dancing around the Christmas tree, known as “Juletrefest,” is planned.

Attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the Jefferson County Food Bank.

Discussion group

SEQUIM — The Sequim Great Decisions Discussion Group will meet at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon today.

The topic is “Pitchfork Politics: The Populist Threat to Liberal Democracy.”

The church is donating free Christmas gifts to those who come.

SEQUIM — Community Christmas caroling is planned from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Place on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street.

The caroling will be led by Craig Buhler.

Sample pet food

Winter solstice

SEQUIM — A winter solstice celebration with yoga, dance, chanting and energy and bodywork sessions will come to the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, this Sunday.

The event is open to everyone from noon till 2 p.m., with admission a suggested $5 to $10 donation. Proceeds will benefit the North Olympic Land Trust.

Run with ‘rain-deer’

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department will host a Rain-Deer Fun Run/Walk at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The 5K and 10K run/walk starts at the City Pier and follows the Waterfront Trail.

Pre-registration participants receive a T-shirt and antlers.

Prizes are awarded for best costume.

The cost is $23 per person, $11 for those 18 and younger.

Christmas caroling

PORT ANGELES — The third annual Christmas Caroling for the Food Bank will be Saturday and Sunday.

Carolers from local Girl Scout Troops 40762, 41417 and 45100, as well as students from Stevens Middle School, Port Angeles High School and Peninsula College, will visit homes to sing Christmas carols and ask for donations for the Port Angeles Food Bank.

NAMI potluck party

PORT ANGELES — NAMI of Clallam County will host its annual Christmas Potluck Party at the Campfire Clubhouse in Webster Park behind Swain’s General Store at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Food, singing, gifts, music and more will be offered.

Last chance at museum

PORT ANGELES — The McLaughlin exhibit at the Museum at the Carnegie, 207 S. Lincoln St., will be available for viewing only through Saturday.

After that, the museum will close for the winter.

The current schedule is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Books Plus store will offer a 20 percent discount on its entire stock until its temporary closure.

The museum will reopen in March, and a new exhibit celebrating the Coast Guard will open in April.

Sons of Norway dance

PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway group will host its weekly folk-ballroom-swing dance at 131 W. Fifth St. from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Dance instruction is planned at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $2 for members and $3 for nonmembers.

This is an all-ages, no-smoking and no-alcohol event.
