Two motorcyclists hurt in Quilcene wreck

QUILCENE — Two motorcyclists were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Saturday after a collision with a car in Quilcene.

Christopher S. Loper, 41, of Yelm and Shalina R. McDonald, 22, of Chehalis were on a black 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle when they were struck by a car at 7:55 p.m. on U.S. Highway 101 at Bowen Street, in downtown Quilcene, police said.

On Sunday, Loper was in satisfactory condition, and McDonald was not listed as a patient.

Bjornn R. Kimball, 39, of Quilcene was in a 1992 Geo Prism parked on southbound shoulder of the road and then pulled into traffic to make a U-turn, according to a State Patrol report issued by Trooper Christopher Moon

Loper, with McDonald as a passenger, were on southbound Highway 101 approaching Bowen Street, and the Prism struck the motorcycle on the right side.

Rescue personnel from Quilcene Volunteer Fire Department and East Jefferson Fire-Rescue were on the scene within minutes.

Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets, Moon noted.

The cause of the wreck was an improper U-turn by Kimball, and charges are pending, according to the report.
