Published 12:01 am Friday, July 23, 2004

PORT ANGELES — Filing begins Monday for Clallam County candidates seeking election in the fall.

Up for election are the District 2 county commissioner seat held by Port Angeles Republican incumbent Mike Chapman; nonpartisan Superior Court 1 and 2 judge positions held by incumbents Ken D. Williams and George L. Wood, respectively; the county sheriff’s position held by appointee Joe Martin, and the nonpartisan Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1 post of Will Purser.

Party precinct committee officer positions will also be elected, but only in the new Montana-style primary. In the past they have been elected during the general election.

Should the candidates face opposition of two or more in the primary, the top two voter-earners will advance to the general election.

Filing at courthouse

The candidate filing period runs next week through 4:30 p.m. Friday at the elections center in the basement of the county courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
