WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Peninsula women sweep three at home tourney

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College women’s basketball team has now won nine in a row, taking a trio of games at their home crossover games without inside star Ituau Tuisaula.

The Pirates beat Spokane easily 77-51 on Saturday and came from behind to beat Mount Hood 71-67 on Friday.

Without the 6-foot-1 Tuisaula in the lineup, five Pirates had at least seven rebounds to make up for her absence. Millie Long led the team with 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Tati Kamae had 14 points and seven rebounds, Adam Kaganak had 12 points and nine rebounds, Lupe’lani Vaaia had eight points and eight rebounds, and Gina Brown had seven points and eight rebounds. Talia Marini added 10 points.

The Pirates (9-2) beat Pierce 63-41 on Sunday afternoon. Details of that game will be published Tuesday.

Peninsula 71, Mount Hood 67

PORT ANGELES — The Pirates got a huge flurry of points and plays from Kamae and Long down the stretch to come from behind and beat Mount Hood 71-67 Friday.

Peninsula got off to a slow start, falling behind 23-8 early in the second quarter, but the Pirates kept shaving the margin down all game, entering the fourth quarter down 46-44.

Kamae scored the final nine points of the game and finished with 26.

Long also had eight points, four steals and three assists in the final 6:30. She came close to a quadruple-double, finishing the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists.

Brown had six points and six rebounds.
