VOLLEYBALL: Sequim faces important test at home Thursday night

Forks win huge match on the road against Raymond-South Bend

BAINBRIDGE — Olympic League-leading Bainbridge and its West Coast Conference-bound senior Holley McFadden made short work of visiting Sequim in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 volleyball win on Tuesday.

McFadden has signed to play for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

”It’s really one player that we couldn’t stop because they weren’t setting their other hitter,” coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “We didn’t really play bad, we just weren’t at their level. We hit 90 percent serving, which is our goal, we got some kills. It didn’t help that we had some hitting errors. Our passing wasn’t terrible, but they aced us eight times.

“I would be floored if they do not win districts. You’d have to have a team that can hit outside and opposite a lot to keep it away from her.”

Rose Gibson led the Wolves with 9-for-9 serving, three digs, two kills and a stuff block.

Kassi Montero added three kills, a block and served 6-of-7.

Arianna Stovall was 8-for-8 on serves with an ace, four perfect passes, four digs, two kills and a block.

Brianna Palenik served 4-for-5 with an ace and a kill, and Kenzi Berglund went 6-for-6 on serves with 12 assists and three digs.

Third-place Sequim (7-3, 7-4) hosts fourth-place Olympic (6-4, 9-4) tonight in a match with postseason implications.

Forks 3, Raymond/South Bend 1

RAYMOND — In a showdown for first place in the Pacific League, Forks picked up a hard-earned road victory 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 14-25, 25-20) over the Raymond/South Bend Ravens.

A comeback win in the second set was pivotal in the match victory.

“I was so proud of them,” coach Jenn LeDuke said. “Senior Eladia Hernandez’s serving was huge. Fyn Peters and Chloe Gaydeski were all over the court and had some great-placed kills.

“Erika Williams had some big kills that really fueled the team’s energy with her confidence on the court with assists from Bailey Johnson. Keana Rowley and Avery Dilley led the team in blocks and kills. Karee Neel’s digs were on point last night as well as strong at the net. Reagan [Dunn] came in serving strong for us too.”

Forks (4-0, 8-3) will host Raymond/South Bend in the rematch on Oct. 24.

“Beating Raymond is a goal we as a team have every year,” Gaydeski said. “I think this was the best game we’ve played as a team so far this season. It felt like we were all on the same page and playing together as a team.

Peters said the team’s energy and communication were big factors in the win.

“I hope we continue to play this way and reach our goal for league champs,” Peters said.

Olympic 3, Port Angeles 0

BREMERTON — The Roughriders fell 25-17, 25-13, 25-23 on the road to the Trojans.

Port Angeles (1-9, 1-10) hosts North Kitsap tonight.

Head coach Alyssa Wetzler missed the match due to illness.

In other volleyball matches Tuesday night, Crescent beat Clallam Bay 3-0 and Neah Bay beat Chief Kitsap 3-0.
