JOYCE — Look out, 1B 8-man football, Josiah Greene has a little brother.
Neah Bay’s quarterback threw a touchdown pass and scored on a run and an interception return in the first quarter.
Eighth-grader Ben Greene took over from there and completed 11 of 13 passes for 191 yards and four touchdowns, as the top-ranked Red Devils beat Crescent 60-0 in Northwest Football League play Saturday afternoon.
Josiah Greene connected with cousin Zeke Greene for a 54-yard touchdown early in the first quarter to give Neah Bay a 8-0 lead.
Fewer than two minutes later, Josiah Greene returned an interception 24 yards for another score.
He then scored on a 61-yard run midway through the quarter to make it 32-0.
The point was proven against the youth-filled and shorthanded Loggers, so the Red Devils turned the game over to their younger players.
“[Neah Bay] coach [Tony] McCaulley is a class act,” Crescent coach Darrell Yount said.
“He held to the plan that he told me they would in order that my team might survive the game and see another day.
“So we were able to play against his second and third teams and experience some success.”
Ben Greene tossed a 25-yard touchdown to freshman Cole Svec to make it 40-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Kenrick Doherty Jr. added a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Ben Greene added three touchdown strikes in the second half to Svec, Cameron Buzzell and Doherty.
Svec led the Red Devils in receiving with three catches for 64 yards. Jericho McGimpsey also had three receptions which went for 50 yards.
Josiah Greene carried the ball once for 61 yards and completed all four of his passes for 63 yards.
Combined, the quarterbacking Greene brothers completed 15 of 17 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns.
“Neah Bay is such an outstanding football team. Easily the class of the league,” Yount said.
“Three things impress you immediately: One, very big and physical team; they play even bigger. By that, I mean that they play assignments and hit with a purpose. You feel the hit next week.
“Two, smart. Great execution, everyone carrying out assignments.
“Three, QB [Josiah] Greene is the best athlete we’ve faced. He just takes over a game.
“And that’s just us playing against their number one for two series. But I’ve seen them on film and they are for real.
“If that wasn’t this year’s state championship team, then I would sure like to see who might be.”
For the Loggers, Zach Fletcher rushed for 75 yards and freshman McCabe Story gained 23 yards on the ground.
Eighth-grader KC Spencer caught one pass for 14 yards, and QuinTinn March had one catch for 10 yards.
Quenton Wolfer led Crescent’s defense with six tackles.
