PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties’ bats, pitching in sync in victory over Kelowna

KELOWNA, B.C. — The Port Angeles Lefties pounded out 12 hits and got fantastic pitching in a 9-2 victory over the Kelowna Falcons on Saturday night in Canada.

The Lefties’ offense was led by Danny Porras (Gig Harbor), who hit his second home run of the season. Porras finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-6 with two runs scored, while Ty Thomas (Cal State, Fullerton) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor Kirk (Fordham) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Will White (Cal State, Bakersfield) had a hit and two RBIs. Jack Edmunds (Brown) was 1-for-4 with three runs scored.

Takuma Sato (Mount Hood CC) started the game and got the win. He went six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. He walked four and struck out six. Jake Cumming (Coppin St.) collected a save by going three innings, allowing one hit and three walks. He struck out three.

The Lefties (14-24 WCL, 3-8 second half) played Kelowna (14-24 WCL, 5-6 second half) Sunday evening with the result after press deadline. The Lefties are off today for a travel day, then return to Port Angeles to play Bellingham at Civic Field at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Friday’s Game

The Port Angeles Lefties were hurt by a six-run fifth inning by the Kelowna Falcons in a 9-2 road loss as the Lefties returned to West Coast League action after the All-Star Break.

The Lefties went into the fifth up 2-0, but Kelowna sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.

Thomas hit a double with an RBI, while Edmunds had a double with a run scored. Newcomer Eddie Alfaro (Riverside CC) had a hit and an RBI, while All-Star Game MVP Tommy Markey (Fordham) returned to the lineup to go 1-for-4 with a run scored.

On the mound, Seth Wrightstone (Vanguard) started and pitched great for the first four innings before getting touched up in the fifth. He went 4⅔ innings, allowed four hits, three earned run and three walks while striking out four. He took the loss.
