GIRLS GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles team third at Sehome Invite

BELLINGHAM — The Port Angeles gymnastics girls came within 2.55 points of first at the Sehome Invitational this weekend.

Ballard won the Saturday event at the North Coast Gymnastics Academy with a team score of 148.30, while Columbia River tallied 148 points and Port Angeles 145.75. Also competing at the event was Sequim, Sehome and Bellingham/Squalicum.

The Roughriders’ best finish was by Cassandra Middlestead who finished first in the balance beam with an 8.25. Middlestead also finished third in the bars with a 7.95 and was fourth overall with a 32.6.

Maya Wharton who finished second in the vault with an 8.5 and fourth in the floor with an 8.8. She was seventh in the all-around with 30.6 points.

The Riders’ next meet will be at the WOWI Invitational in Vancouver, Wash., on Jan. 7.
