It’s hard to pick one athlete on the Forks wrestling squad that won regionals and will send 14 athletes to the Mat Classic, but Josue Lucas stands out.

Lucas, just a sophomore, won with three straight pins at the 106-pound weight division to take the District I 1A Regionals crown. Earlier this season, Lucas won the Evergreen 1A Sub-regionals and came in first at the Sgt. Justin Norton Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Rainier.

Lucas also went 31-4 on the season.

Lucas will be joined by other Forks regionals champions Garrison Schumack (145 pounds), Jack Dahlgren (195 pounds) and Luke Dahlgren (220 pounds). Other Forks wrestlers who qualified for the Mat Classic are Colby Demorest, Gavin Palmer, Shane Queen, Kenny Gale, Brett Moody, Eden Cisneros, Tristen Pisani, Nathan Flores and Marissa Bailey. Keith Thompson qualified as an alternate.

“He has more ptotential than even he knows,” says his coach Robert Wheeler.
