OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Drivers can travel free of obstructions around Lake Crescent this week.
No construction work is planned on U.S. Highway 101 around the lake, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokeswoman.
Paving of U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent in the 12-mile project zone was completed for the season in July.
Half-hour delays will resume form Aug. 21 to Aug. 23, Wagner said.
Federal Highway Administration crews will work on the roadway in front of the rock wall near milepost 229 where rock scaling work was completed last season.
A crew will conduct a geotechnical survey by drilling in the roadway. The work is necessary to create the design to restore the roadway in this section to the normal width.
Flaggers will control traffic in the small work zone to allow alternating single-lane traffic, Wagner said.
Strider Construction is scheduled to resume road work the week of Aug. 27 with guardrail installation.
Through late September, road work is restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham is in its second of three seasons of work to rehabilitate 12 miles of the highway around Lake Crescent in a project costing $27.5 million.
Construction seasons are from March through mid-November.
