Makah tribal member Theron Parker will lead about 25 canoes to Ozette, with a lunch stop on Tatoosh Island, on today’s leg of the annual Paddle Journey.
Among the tribes pulling today are the Makah, Quileute, Hoh, Quinault, Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Port Gamble S’Klallam, Swinomish, Squaxin Island, Tulalip, Nisqually, Puyallup, Muckleshoot, Snohomish, Squamish and Duwamish.
The canoes are expected to leave Neah Bay at 8 a.m. and arrive in Ozette by mid-afternoon. The paddlers will leave Wednesday morning for LaPush. The journey will end Saturday in the Grays Harbor County town of Taholah, where the Quinault tribe will host a three-day potlatch celebration.
