Power out for thousands in Clallam County

PORT ANGELES — More than 11,000 electric meters were without power in Clallam County on Tuesday afternoon, according to an outage map on the Clallam County PUD website.

The total of 11,029 meters represented about 33 percent of the PUD’s service territory at 4:59 p.m.

Most of the outages were being reported between Port Angeles and Sequim.

Meanwhile, there were no outages being reported in Jefferson County, according to the PUD’s map.

Strong winds are expected across the North Olympic Peninsula tonight and into early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Neah Bay is likely to see wind gusts of about 60 to 65 mph, with the strongest winds occurring between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., NWS meteorologist Anna Lindeman said.

Port Townsend is forecast to have sustained winds of about 30 to 35 mph, with gusts between 55 and 60 mph.

The Hood Canal bridge may experience closures due to wind conditions.

State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) employee David Garcia said bridge closures depend on a lot of factors, including wind direction and speed, but “generally anything above 40 mph we highly consider closing the bridge.”
