PORT TOWNSEND — Intellicheck Mobilisa Inc. announced this week that some ports in New York City had purchased the company’s identity card reader system.
The Port Townsend company’s IM2700 mobile Transportation Worker Identity Credential — or TWIC — reader system reads, validates and authenticates the government-mandated card.
The customer, a global energy management specialist, operates port facilities in and around Manhattan, Intellicheck Mobilisa announced Monday.
It did not give the name of the customer.
The TWIC program is an initiative of the Transportation Security Administration and Coast Guard to provide tamper-resistant biometric identification cards to port facility workers.
TWIC cards have become a mandatory requirement for access to all U.S. ports as of April 15.
Intellicheck Mobilisa’s TWIC reader handheld device is used to validate TWIC cards.
Intellicheck’s TWIC reader is currently in use at port facilities in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas and Washington state.
