Fire at Port Townsend car lot still being investigated

PORT TOWNSEND — Police continued last week to investigate an early Monday morning fire at Gary’s Cars & Trucks at 1510 W. Sims Way that left three vehicles and a tree engulfed in flames.

“Officers are still working the case and figuring out what is going on. More follow-up is needed,” said Port Townsend Police Sgt. Kamal Sharif on Friday.

Port Townsend police received a report at 2:53 a.m. Monday of vehicles on fire at the car dealership, Sharif said.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue firefighters contained the fire while police kept people away from the area, and the firefighters and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies provided traffic control.

A caretaker lives on the property, but no one reported seeing anything, Sharif said.

Jefferson County Public Utility District was contacted because of initial concerns about overhead power lines, but those turned out not to be involved, Sharif said.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue responded with one fire engine, two medic units and a battalion chief.
