PORT TOWNSEND — Diego Murray is the first recipient of Jefferson Land Trust’s Fairbank Award for Youth Environmental Action.

Murray, a resident of Eaglemount, was nominated by four separate people for his work ethic, passion for nature and his mentorship of others at the CedarRoot Folk School.

The Fairbank Award, named for Sarah and Owen Fairbank, recognizes a person aged 12 to 19 years old, who demonstrates leadership, commitment and innovation in building a community that’s healthy, happy, sustainable and deeply connected to nature. Murray was one of nine nominees for the award, which includes a $500 prize.
