Peninsula boards and commissions will consider next week a proclamation for Correctional Officer Week, a consultant’s report on utility rates and a new definition of a Type I short-term rental.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider a resolution proclaiming May 4-10 as Correctional Officer Week during their weekly business meeting on Tuesday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• Opening of bids for the 2025 Hot Mix Asphalt and CSS-1 Liquid Asphalt Requirements.

• Award of bid to 2 Grade LLC for $153,207.45 for debris removal project at the site of the proposed Dungeness off-channel reservoir.

Free days added for national parks

Non-U.S. residents to pay more for visiting

About 150 to 200 people jumped into 49-degree water at Hollywood Beach on Jan. 1, 2025, for the 37th annual Polar Bear Dip. The air temperature was about 39 degrees, so it was a short, brisk dip that they did three times. There was a beach fire to warm the dippers afterward as well as two portable saunas in the parking lot. The event was sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County under the leadership of organizer Dan Welden. Hot drinks, tasty muffins and a certificate for participants were available.
