Wisdom, purpose of life Port Townsend talk’s focus

PORT TOWNSEND — Michael Meade, author of Fate and Destiny: The Two Agreements of the Soul and founder of Seattle’s nonprofit Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, will host two programs this weekend.

Both will be at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave. in Port Townsend.

First comes “The Roots of Wisdom, The Flowering of Knowledge,” an evening of stories and poems to start at 7 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, Meade will lead a daylong intensive workshop titled “The Second Adventure of Life,” from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Admission to the Friday program is $12.

Meade will discuss the roots of wisdom through stories from many traditional cultures, according to Mosaic’s announcement.

“There are many wisdom traditions, but each depends upon a ‘living wisdom’ that can connect current dilemmas with eternal truths,” Meade said.

The poet and storyteller is known for his work with elders and with youths as they seek to realize their personal potential.

In a profile in the November issue of The Sun magazine, Meade spoke about living with imagination and soul and learning one’s true nature.

He also told Sun interviewer John Malkin about a dance he went to after a speaking engagement in Portland, Ore.

He compared it with “the dance of life” and said to the participants, “I want you to do one thing, which is to understand who you are in the midst of the dance.

“No one else is dancing the same way that you are. So be in the big dance of life, but also be yourself in the big dance.”

The Second Adventure workshop Saturday will cost $85.

“The Second Adventure,” Meade said, “involves the original project of the soul, with its deeper meanings, and the unique style that each person brings to life.

“The Second Adventure follows one’s true life purpose but also reveals one’s best way of contributing to the life of others as well as the ongoing creation of the world.”
