Peabody Creek field trip planned

PORT ANGELES — Feiro Marine Life Center will lead a field trip along Peabody Creek from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24.

The trips are open to home-schooled students in fourth- to sixth-grade equivalents; students must have an adult chaperone.

The students will hike along Peabody Creek from the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, down to the Fiero Center, 315 N. Lincoln St.

Participants will walk approximately two miles over uneven terrain including stairs, forest trails and city sidewalks.

Trails may be steep in places, with loose gravel or slick mud.

The students will collect water quality data at multiple locations along the hike and will see examples of how human activity may impact health of local watersheds.

The center requires a $3 registration fee per student and participants will have the opportunity to visit the center’s exhibits at the completion of the hike.

Register online at www.feiromarinelifecenter.org.

For more information, call Rachele Brown, the center’s education manager, at 360-775-5182 or email racheleb@feiromarinelifecenter.org.
