JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: A variety of venues, vibes for music

Port Angeles and Joyce

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, Jerry’s Country Jam lasts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with country’s golden oldies with guest musician Les Wamboldt.

■ Dan Maguire plays Friday at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This concert will be his debut as a singer/songwriter, and he will be accompanied by the talented Clark Driese on guitar and Zorina Wolf on percussion. Folks can expect a fun evening filled with high energy and great music.

■ Country Lips plays at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., on Friday. It’s hard to sit still when eight-plus members bring the foot-stompers out. Rachael, Barry and Mick will open for the group at 9 p.m.

Justin Scott Rivet goes solo Mondays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Sunday at Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St., Angus Fang, a cover band, plays at 6 p.m.

■ The gadabout crooner Charlie Ferris starts his fall lineup of appearances at the Bushwhacker Restaurant, 1527 E. First St., on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play and sing old songs at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play with musical guests Bill and Rudy from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Front Street Alibi, 1605 E. Front St., Dee Coburn and the Night Beats play oldies of pop, rock and country from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ Today and every Thursday at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Jason Mogi headlines the Deadwood Experiment with special guests at 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Wednesdays through Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ At the Salt Creek Restaurant and Lounge, state Highway 112 and Camp Hayden Road, Joyce, the Gypsy Cowbelle plays today from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Discovery Bay Pirates perform sea chanties and Irish songs at 5:30 p.m.

Final Approach lands with its boomer music Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Friday, “Jazzy Judy” Clark is joined by special guests Roma Peters and Randa Wintermute at Pondicherri West, 119 E. Washington St., at 6 p.m. for the First Friday Art Walk.

■ Also celebrating the First Friday Art Walk, Fret Noir (Mary Tulin and Gilbert Yslas) will play at Rainshadow Coffee, 157 W. Cedar St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesdays at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Kelly and Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, the high-energy rock band Radioactive entertains from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, grab your sheets for a toga party from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with the party band Society’s Child.

On Sunday, the Michael Pratt Band plays country from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday, the Dukes of Dabob return to Valley Tavern, 21 Chimicum Road, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the best in Dixieland jazz.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., the Teresa James band plays blues at 8 p.m. Cover.

On Saturday, the Ron Hendee band brings on more blues at 8 p.m. $8 cover.

On Sunday, Eugenie Jones performs jazz at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., Lowire performs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, acoustic guitarist John Nelson plays a mix of folk, blues and country with his own unique flair from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Barry Burnett and Rachael Jorgenson of Port Angeles meet up with Tom Svornich and Todd Fisher of Port Townsend for an evening of classic rock, rhythm and blues, Motown and country from the ’50s and ’60s from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets, the Mike Horsfall Trio features the music of Lionel Hampton on vibes from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. $8 cover.

■ On Friday, California-based indie/soul-alternative duo Erin and the Project perform at the Undertown, 211 Taylor St., at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday, Mike Horsfall tickles the ivories at Lanza’s Ristorante, 1020 Lawrence St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, Seattle family band Hot Cider String Band plays at the monthly Black Diamond contra dance at Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Dances will be called by David Kaynor.

A donation of $7 is suggested for adults and $3 for those younger than 18.

There will be a special workshop on the fine points and styles of contra dancing and swing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $5.

■ The Second Saturday Community Dance at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend, features music by Fresh Cider with Eric Curl calling from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Adults, $6; younger than 18, $3.

■ Washington Old Time Fiddlers play live music at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. All-players jam, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; performance, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Free and open to the public. Donations support youth scholarships. More details are at http://d15.wotfa.org.

■ On Saturday, Charlie Loesel performs at the Port Angeles Farmers Market at The Gateway, Front and Lincoln streets, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cutline: A fundraiser for WAG and Open starts Today at 11 a.m. with an English and jumping fun show, followed tomorrow with a Western Games show at Kari Payne’s 4-L arena off Blue Mountain Road, 95 S. McCrorie Rd. Port Angeles.  Fox-Bell Farm owner Shelby Vaughan, and her assistants Sophie Feik and Kaia Lestage (holding Marley) will be there to host. Shown is Tatar Trots, 10. a horse Shelby got from OPEN five years ago when he was a feral, unhandled stallion and, now, after castrating and training,  he’s a docile horse who enjoys teaching kids how to ride.
