Awards presented in Weather or Not show; People’s Choice still open

PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Art has presented $1,400 in awards to four regional artists in the new “Weather or Not” show at Jeanette Best Gallery.

Juror Catherine Gill of Seattle, who selected the show’s 58 paintings from 175 submissions, named the award winners:

The $500 Juror’s Choice prize goes to “Cherry Blossoms at UW,” a watercolor by David Smith of Seattle.

Three $300 merit awards go to Anne Pfeiffer of Port Angeles’ “Dosewallips Low Tide,” Brian Mahieu of Langley’s “Snowy Headland — Dusk” and Susan Payne of Kent’s “Fog Lift over Ebey Prairie.”

One more award will be presented: the $100 People’s Choice prize. Everyone is invited to cast ballots for their favorites at Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St., through the exhibition’s Oct. 29 closing date. The gallery is open daily from noon to 5 p.m.

The “Weather or Not” show celebrates the art of plein air paintings; it’s also a tribute to Port Townsend’s Kathy Francis (1942-2020), who formed a plein air artists’ group called Weather or Not.
