Famed pianist to perform at Field Hall

PORT ANGELES — Acclaimed pianist Katya Grineva joins the roster of pre-opening acts scheduled at Field Arts & Events Hall with a concert, “Love & Water,” on Sunday.

Field Hall at the corner of Oak and Front streets will offer a two-day free Community Days event next weekend and celebrate the grand opening of the $56 million, 41,000-square-foot facility the following weekend. Its first concert was the Brubeck Brothers Quartet on July 6.

Sunday’s concert will be at 3 p.m. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale to the general public at https://field hallevents.org/katya. Tickets also are available to Founders Circle Donors.

The concert will include a selection of romantic classics chosen to celebrate the venue’s waterfront location, said Steve Raider-Ginsburg, executive director, in a press release.

Following the program, guests will be invited to gather in the waterfront conference center for a champagne toast overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and an opportunity for social time with friends.

The toast and cocktail hour from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. will recognize support by Founders Circle patrons and donors, including Dorothy Field, the donor and arts patron for whom the building has been named.

Grineva holds the distinction of having been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall more than any other solo female pianist in the organization’s history, Raider-Ginsburg said.

Her performance style has been described as “liquid… dreamlike” by the New York Times.

“We are honored to invite Katya Grineva to celebrate the opening of this extraordinary building, and to help us recognize the individuals who have helped make this possible,” Raider-Ginsburg said.

“Katya will be the very first artist to perform using our in-house Steinway piano, known as ‘Dorothy’s Piano,’ in honor of Dorothy Field, who donated the instrument,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for us to say thank you – to Donna Morris who started this project, to Dorothy for carrying her vision forward, and to all our donors who have made a commitment to join us in this mission.”

The program will include “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy, “Boat on the Ocean” by Maurice Ravel, “Poems of the Sea” by Ernest Bloch, “Barcarolle” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, “Fantasie- Impromtu” by Frédéric Chopin and “St. Francis de Paule Walking on the Waves” by Franz Liszt among others.

“Over a year ago, when I toured Katya through the building, when she stood on the stage she whispered, ‘I want to play here,’ ” said Board President Judge Brooke Taylor.

“When I heard that I immediately wanted her to be the first to play Dorothy’s Piano in the theater. We’re so grateful that Katya has agreed to come and to perform this as a benefit to help close our capital campaign.”

Founders Circle Donors who give any amount towards the Field Hall Capital Campaign prior to the grand opening will be recognized as members of the Founders Circle.

Donors who give or pledge $2,500 towards the capital campaign prior to the grand opening will receive special recognition and benefits as Founders Circle Patrons.
