Bilingual storytime, listening workshop planned for area

Listening workshop

SEQUIM — Toastmasters Lindy MacLaine and Judy Stein will present “Listen Up! Skills for a Successful New Year” from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The 90-minute workshop will be presented at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim.

Mothersong

PORT HADLOCK — The Jefferson County Library will host Mothersong from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The free program is offered in the library’s Humphrey Room at 620 Cedar Ave.

Mothersong is a multicultural sing-along for families with babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Adults should plan to stay and to engage with their children.

Bilingual Storytime

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System will host English/Spanish Bilingual Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The early literacy program, designed for children up to 5 years old and their adult caregivers, will be at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The bilingual sessions will give families an opportunity to expose their children to two languages. Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary.

The free storytime sessions feature singing, reading, talking, playing and writing.

Soup cook off

PORT ANGELES — Fairview Grange will host a soup cook off with cornbread at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The fundraising dinner will be in the grange hall at 161 Lake Farm Road.

Competitors should bring at least 10 servings of soup. The winner will receive a $25 gift card.

The meal will be followed at 6 p.m. by a Chinese dessert auction.

Proceeds will benefit the Grange’s scholarship fund.

Diabetes group

PORT ANGELES — Michael Lessor, dietician and certified diabetic educator, will present “Back to the Basics” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lessor will address a monthly diabetic support group meeting in the Seasons Cafe, Olympic Memorial Hospital, 939 Caroline St.

The group’s meetings are free and open to the public.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be in the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

Admission is $5 per person; first-time attendees are admitted free.

Refreshments will be served from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Perspectives speaker

PORT ANGELES — Syria Lejau will present “Comparing Two Rain Forests” at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The free lecture, part of Olympic National Park’s Perspectives series, is in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Lejau will share stories and pictures contrasting the tropical rain forest with temperate Hoh Rain Forest.

Lejau’s lecture was postponed from Jan. 14 due to adverse weather.
