Louisa Monger of Port Angeles, right, shows off a handmade wreath she was purchasing at tables staffed by members of the Port Angeles High School Choir, including seniors, from left, Kaelyn Herringer, Rayna Mathison and Grace Possinger, on Saturday at the Conrad Dyar Memorial Fountain in downtown Port Angeles. The wreath sale was a benefit to help fund a spring trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York with members of the school’s choir, orchestra and band. Leftovers from Saturday’s sale, along with a bake sale and silent auction, will be available during the school’s holiday concert at 7 p.m. tonight at the Port Angeles Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave. (Keith Thorpe/Peninsula Daily News)

In honor of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, about 75 people paraded up Harrison Street in Port Townsend toward St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Monday afternoon. The police-escorted procession marked the day on which Roman Catholics believe the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an indigenous man, in 1531. Mary, known as Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, is the patron saint of that country and “the Mother of us all,” according to a handout at the parish. St. Mary Star of the Sea, the only Catholic church in Jefferson County, celebrates Sunday masses in Spanish and in English. (Diane Urbani de la Paz/for Peninsula Daily News)

Brian King, the chief criminal deputy for the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, is among more than 100 volunteers from a dozen agencies to participate in the Shop with a Hero program at Wal-Mart in Port Angeles. About 80 kids from the community got to go on a shopping spree with law enforcement officers from Port Angeles, Sequim and other agencies and spend $100 however they wished. They also had a chance to take photos with Santa, sip on hot chocolate, decorate cookies and see police vehicles up close. (Jesse Major/for Peninsula Daily News)
