PORT ANGELES — Crews from Clallam County Fire District 2 quickly contained a wildland fire earlier this month.

A smoke column located in a wooded area near Fisher Cove Road was reported on June 6.

When firefighters arrived, they located a three-quarter-acre fire burning in light fuels and encroaching into timber, the fire district stated in a press release.

Command was established and a general alarm requested additional brush engines, water tenders and support from the state Department of Natural Resources.

Crews quickly stopped the fire’s forward progress and began mop-up operations to ensure containment, according to the press release.

DNR resources arrived shortly thereafter and assumed command of the incident. They remained on scene to complete the final mop-up and secure the area, the fire district said.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened, the fire district said.
