SEQUIM — An early Wednesday morning fire left a 4,000-square-foot home on Sequim Bay extensively damaged.

No one was injured, said Assistant Chief Dan Orr of Clallam County Fire District 3.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 2200 block of East Sequim Bay Road at 12:12 a.m. when a neighbor reported to the 9-1-1 dispatcher that flames were showing from the roof.

The first crews from the district’s Blyn Station arrived about six minutes after the call; crews soon found flames on all three levels of the home.

The home was occupied by an elderly couple, who alerted a neighbor of the smoke, Orr said. The neighbor took the couple to safety and then called 9-1-1.

Joined by additional personnel from Sequim, Carlsborg and Diamond Point stations — along with crews from Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue and East Jefferson Fire and Rescue — fire crews spent about four hours fighting the fire in the structure that endured heavy smoke and fire damage throughout.

At one point 30 firefighters were on scene, Orr said.

Orr said the initial cost of damage is about $500,000.

“This house was not an ordinarily constructed or furnished home; the level of fit and finish was very high end and the home was extremely well-constructed,” Orr said.

Fire officials were still investigating the fire’s cause as of Wednesday afternoon.
