PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Marathon Association has announced that Port Angeles residents Harper McGuire and Dominic Reader are the winners of the 2018 Norma and Gene Turner Achievement Award.

Dr. Gene and Norma Turner, along with race director Victoria Jones, presented the awards at an April 29 ceremony at Port Angeles City Hall.

Each will receive $500 to use for post-high school education.

This is the 13th consecutive year this award has been presented.

This year’s scholarships were funded by Norma and Gene Turner and Michelle and Larry Little.

The winners are selected from participants in the kids marathon running program in their school district.

The 2019 North Olympic Discovery Kids Marathon will finish up at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at City Pier.

The kids marathon is made possible by the sponsorship of Olympic Medical Center and the Support of the YMCA Youth and Government students who volunteer to help organize the event.
