Calawah River Bridge delays planned

FORKS — Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers during repairs of the Calawah River bridge on U.S. Highway 101 this week.

The closures will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday, said the state Department of Transportation in a press release.

Work began last Monday as maintenance crews removed and replaced four elevated steel bridge beams. The beams were damaged in years past by over-height vehicles.

Periodically throughout the project, crews will totally close the roadway for up to 30 minutes at a time to remove and re-install heavy steel. Drivers are encouraged to expect brief delays.

Workers will aim to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
