Peninsula students show off their history knowledge for DAR contest

Three area students earned high marks for their essays submitted to the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In the elementary/middle school category, two Clallam County students won first place with their pieces that remembered the “War to End All Wars” (World War I).

They are seventh-grade home-schooler Reice Elsasser-Donaldson and Hamilton Elementary fifth-grade student Kendall Mitchell.
The High School DAR Essay Contest — in coordination with the National Italian American Foundation — focused on the topic, “Advantages and Disadvantages of Working Relationships Between Foreign Parties.”
Sequim High School student Olivia Preston took top honors in this contest.
Honored at tea
The trio of students were honored during DAR’s George Washington Tea on Feb. 17 in Port Angeles.
In addition, Preston and Elsasser-Donaldson were awarded first place in the state, and may compete for a national DAR prize, according to a news release.
