PYSHT — A driver escaped injury when a truck hauling an excavator missed a turn on state Highway 112, fell 100 feet down an embankment and jack-knifed on the beach below, according to State Patrol.

The wreck was reported at 1 p.m. at milepost 39 near the East Twin River on Monday.

Crews were still alternating traffic at about 7 p.m., according to a bulletin from the state Department of Transportation.

Trooper Kiesha Conan said two tow trucks were working to get the excavator off the trailer, then commercial vehicle officers would conduct an investigation.

She did not yet know the cause of the wreck and said it remained under investigation.
