PORT ANGELES — A 1,100-foot Panamanian container ship that made port in Port Angeles on Monday lost cargo while at sea, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Hanjin Seattle lost 35 reportedly empty containers while 29 containers fell on the deck due to rough seas during transit from Long Beach, Calif., to Seattle.

Of those that fell on the deck, 22 were full of cargo, said Lt. Dana Warr in an email.

The incident happened in Canadian waters, he said.

Canada has issued a warning to mariners that containers are reportedly washing ashore on Vancouver Island.

Coast Guard Port State Control inspectors attended the vessel Monday and found no substantive damage to the vessel.

The Hanjin Seattle departed for Yukon Harbor, just north of Vashon Island, he said.
