SEATTLE — Officials say ferries between Seattle and Bainbridge Island are delayed due to a search and rescue operation in Seattle’s Elliott Bay.

State Department of Transportation officials said in a statement Wednesday evening that a ferry from Seattle to the island is delayed and the delay will affect ferry service into the evening.

KOMO-TV reported that the agency received a call of a person overboard from the ferry Puyallup around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say it isn’t clear if the call came from someone on the ferry or if anyone saw a person go overboard.

The Coast Guard said that MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Port Angeles, as well as the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Sea Lion, an 87-foot boat homeported in Port Angeles, are searching along with a a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Seattle, the Bainbridge Island Police Department and the Seattle fire and police departments.
