NEWS BRIEFS: Common berry pests in garden topic of talk today in Port Angeles . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — Veteran Clallam County Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green will discuss how to identify and address common diseases and pests of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries today.

Her lecture, “When Berries Go Bad,” begins at noon in the commissioners’ meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

The presentation is part of the “Green Thumb Garden Tips” brown bag series sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Stehr-Green will speak about the natural history and life cycles of eight common berry diseases and pests, and approaches to prevention and control.

Attendees can bring a lunch.

The presentation is free and open to the public, but donations to help offset copying costs for handouts are accepted.

Spay to Save

SEQUIM — The Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic will be at the Clallam Co-op, 216 E. Washington St., from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.

The clinic offers low-cost dog or cat spay/neuter services.

Female or male dogs cost $30.

Female cats are $20 and male cats $10.

Feral/free-roaming cats are free.

Spay to Save is a nonprofit organization that serves lower-income residents of Clallam County.

Death Over Coffee

SEQUIM — Death Over Coffee: A Death Cafe, an open forum discussion group designed to promote discussion on the topics of death and dying, will take place on the following dates:

■ Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at Rainshadow Coffee, 157 W. Cedar St.

■ Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Nourish, 101 Provence View Lane (upstairs).

Participants must be able to hold thoughtful, intelligent and nonjudgmental discussions around the topics.
