PORT TOWNSEND — All singers ages 16 and older are invited to join the Community Chorus of Port Townsend and East Jefferson County as rehearsals for the spring concerts start this Sunday at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1335 Blaine St.
No auditions are required to join the chorus, which will continue rehearsing every Sunday for its performances April 18-19. Men are especially encouraged to come sing.
Registration will start at 6 p.m. this Sunday, with rehearsal from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall, so singers should enter on the Harrison Street side of the church.
To speed the registration process, newcomers can download a form at www.PTChorus.org and send it with the $35 annual fee to Marj Iuro, P.O. Box 1974, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
Music will be waiting for early registrants at the first rehearsal.
Second registration
A second registration will be held at 6 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 25, for those who can’t make it this Sunday.
Leslie Lewis, the spring director, will lead the ensemble in concerts commemorating the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
“We will perform songs from those time periods, as well as contemporary works reflecting on the impact of the two conflicts and honoring those who served and sacrificed all,” Lewis said.
“Not only did the world wars alter the lives of those who lived through them, but they shaped the generations that followed.”
