The envelope, please! Port Townsend to put on gala for Oscar evening

PORT TOWNSEND — After taking a break last year, the Port Townsend Film Institute, presenter of the Port Townsend Film Festival, is bringing back its Oscar Gala, complete with a Hollywood look-alike contest and dinner.
It will be held at the Northwest Maritime Center next Sunday, Feb. 24.
Jonathan Browning, a filmmaker and comedian who has taken part in Port Townsend’s September film festival, will host the gala this year.

“I have been blessed to attend many amazing film festivals around the world, and the PTFF will always hold a special place in my heart,” Browning said.
The Oscar Gala is a fundraiser for the Port Townsend Film Festival.
Tickets are $45 in advance via 360-379-1333.
If still available, tickets will be $50 at the door, but patrons are advised that the Oscar Gala has sold out in the past.
The 85th annual Academy Awards will be broadcast on big screens starting at 5:30 p.m. after a lavish pre-show party at the Maritime Center, 431 Water St.
Festivities will start at 3:30 p.m. with music by Rex Reed and his trio, the pouring of Champagne, appetizers from local chefs and a silent auction of gifts and excursions.
A buffet dinner will be laid out 30 minutes before the Oscar ceremonies begin.
Then, during commercial breaks for the show, Browning will announce the winners of various prize-drawings and of the Hollywood look-alike competition.
Wine will be available all evening from a no-host bar.
