AREA SPORTS: Port Angeles’ Romero honored as WIAA Athlete of the Week

Sequim Junior Soccer gear swap is Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Romero’s two no-hitters honored by state body

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles senior Colton Romero has been recognized as a Week 28 Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

All students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the Athlete of the Week award.

Winners receive a $25 DICK’S Sporting Goods gift card, a letter of recognition from WIAA Executive Director Mick Hoffman and a certificate of achievement.

Romero has thrown two no-hitters in his first two starts this season, striking out 19 hitters in nine straight innings. He also maintains a season batting average of .333.

Soccer swap today

SEQUIM — Sequim Junior Soccer will hold its annual Soccer Swap at the Albert Haller Playfields today from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The public can bring outgrown soccer gear and swap for a pair of cleats, shin guards or other soccer gear that fits.

The event is free.
